Behind the Food Carts

Must Eats

People are always asking us, “What are the must-eat carts and what should I order?” So we thought we’d put together a list of our faves. (Make sure to check their websites for the most up-to-date locations, prices, and hours.)

Portland, OR

Nong’s Khao Man Gai

Why eat here: When you only make one dish, it’d better be out of this world! Good thing Nong knocks it out of the park with her classic Chicken Over Rice. We’ve had all the different Asian variations of this dish, but Nong’s is definitely a standout. The chicken juice-soaked rice, the delicious garlic sauce, the presentation; it all screams comfort food. The soup is also a favorite. Packed with unforgettable flavor, it’s not your typical side dish.

Order this: Khao Man Gai (Chicken and Rice) - $6.50 (add Chicken Skin for $1.00 more if it’s available. You won’t regret it)

Tip: Make sure to get there early because when they’re out, they’re out.

Euro Trash

Why eat here: Euro Trash. How can you not eat at place called Euro Trash? If the colorful pink cart doesn’t draw you in, their unique food choices will. How many food carts serve foie gras—let alone on top of potato chips? We truck our friends out to this cart just for their Fishy Chips. Don’t let the sight of a whole anchovy scare you. Just squeeze some lemon, dip it in their yummy aioli, and you’re good to go!

Order this: Fishy Chips - $6.00

Tip: The Fishy Chips don’t come with “chips.” Get the Nah-Nah Chips for a true fish+chips experience.

Fried Egg I’m in Love

Why eat here: We Portlanders love breakfast and take it seriously. You can’t visit Portland without enjoying breakfast at a food cart. If you like breakfast sandwiches, Fried Egg I’m in Love has you covered. This ain’t your weak, pansy breakfast sandwich either. This is the real deal. Take the Egg Zeppelin for example: 2 eggs, 2 house made sausage patties, and cheddar. Or their signature sandwich, the Yolko Ono: house-made sausage patty with parmesan and pesto. It almost doesn’t need to be said—since it’s in the name—but expect amazing fried eggs to shine in all their sandwiches.

Order this: Egg Zeppelin - $8.00

Tip: Eat it while it’s hot and the egg is nice and squirty.
