Behind the Food Carts

Nick Dickison & Carina Rumrill - The Cheese Plate PDX

Hey, all you cheese lovers out there! The Cheese Plate is a new vegetarian food cart on Alberta St. focusing on locally-made artisan cheeses from Oregon & Washington. It’s fun, open, and perfect for first-timers branching out into the world of fromage. Don’t be intimidated by their diverse selection of local and vintage cheese; Nick is pro-sampling.

Nick and Carina have been in the restaurant industry for years—it’s where they met. They strive to bring the same feelings of camaraderie and discovery they experienced hosting “Cheese Nights” with friends to their food cart. Everything—besides the cheese—is made fresh: their own crackers, cheese spreads, and all the wonderful side dishes for the Picnic Plate. Oh, and vegans are more than welcome; they’ve got you covered with plenty of locally-sourced, flavorful options.

Stop by and get a cheese plate! You’ll thank yourself. :)

Love the old school cheese box as a potter.

The Cheese Plate!! This cart was built really nicely.

Nick & his step-son Alex Knowlton. Carina was not there unfortunately. :(

Cheese spreads for you to try.

These are the different flavors of cheese spreads they have.

This is a sheep cheese called Valentine from Ancient Heritage.

This is a lovely cow & goat cheese. It’s called Echo Mountain Blue from Rogue Creamery.

This is the Oregon Cheese Plate. You get 3 Oregon cheeses with seasonal condiments, chevre truffles, & fromage fort.

Another view of the Oregon Cheese Plate.

This is the Picnic Plate. You can choose 4 different sides from 10 options and make your own plate! In this picture, green & black olives stuffed with goat & blue cheeses, watermelon with ginger sea salt, corn & potato salad with white truffle aioli, & wild mushroom and kale pate with balsamic seaweed caviar.

Here’s a closer look at the watermelon. It was my favorite. :)
