We make it at home frequently and it serves as a great comfort food. One of Phil’s favorite Japanese food items is Karaage (Japanese fried chicken) and seeing it on the menu paired with Japanese curry was impossible to pass up! Isn’t freshly fried pork katsu being cut one of the best culinary sounds out there?

We’re obsessed with coffee. We make at least two batches of Chemex every day and were geekily awestruck at the Santa Cruz Regional Barista Championships. We’re so obsessed we’ve rolled up our sleeves and started roasting our own small batches of coffee beans at home.

That’s why it’s been such a blast trying all the different roasters and cafes in the Bay Area. There’s nothing quite like being around people passionate about their craft, and these specialty coffee shop experts have passion in spades. We thought it’d be awesome to profile these Bay Area roasters, so we’re kicking it off with Chromatic Coffee.

Chromatic Coffee is one of our new favorites (being just down the street from us doesn’t hurt). They were gracious enough to let us stop by and take pics at their cafe. We had a blast getting to know them better and watching them work their magic!

You start a food truck! This was the solution Nikki and Felicity reached before opening up Jo on the Go in the South Bay. Having worked in the coffee scene together for eight years, Nikki and Felicity were joined by Paul and set about providing piping hot coffee and espresso drinks to their South Bay customers. Stop by Jo on the Go for a morning wake-up call or just an afternoon indulgence.

And that is what Judy Vandoorne of Waffle Amore does with waffles. Judy doesn’t just make ordinary waffles, she makes authentic Belgian waffles. She traveled to Belgium to learn all about waffles and how to make them.

She makes 2 kinds of waffles, a liege waffle and a brussels waffle. A liege waffle is lightly caramelized on the outside and soft and chewy on the inside. While the brussels waffle is light and crispy. So depending on whether you like something heavier or lighter, you can’t go wrong with either kind of waffle.

Judy highly recommends that you try the liege waffle with nothing on it. Or the brussels waffle with just butter. The waffle by itself is just so good, she wants you to know what it tastes like before you go crazy with the other toppings.

If you’re looking for a wonderful food experience, please go to Waffle Amore. Judy and her team will take wonderful care of you and give you an amazing waffle experience.

Rob John, a former teacher disillusioned with the Californian education system, left the classroom for the food industry. A self-proclaimed perfectionist, he hired the young and talented chefs Bret Downy and Neil Davidson, both of whom had worked at Ad Hoc and French Laundry, to meet his high standards. Together, the three of them serve sliders for every conceivable taste.

We dare you to find a slider you wouldn’t like in the following selection: beef patty, split pea fritter (for you vegetarian folks), pulled pork, BLT, crispy meatloaf, and fried chicken. If you’re just not in the mood for sliders (crazy talk, we know), their buttermilk fried chicken is some of the best we’ve ever had. Smoked in an on-site smoker, brined, battered in their special mix, and deep fried, it’s prepared on the truck and made to order, like all their food.

In an industry where shortcuts are often taken to the detriment of the food quality, Whip Out pulls out all the stops and does it right. Their food and service reflect their standards. Stalk them on Twitter and see for yourself!
